When preparing for disaster or emergencies, having a prepared first aid kit stocked and available can help alleviate stress and expedite necessary first aid care at the direction of your veterinarian. Some recommended supplies to have on hand include:

  • Activated charcoal (to use at the discretion of your veterinarian)
  • Anti-diarrheal liquid or tablets
  • Antibiotic ointment for wounds (to use at the discretion of your veterinarian)
  • Bandage scissors 
  • Bandage tape
  • Povidone-iodine (Betadine) or chlorhexidine scrub (Nolvasan) scrub and solution
  • Cotton bandage rolls
  • Cotton-tipped swabs
  • Elastic bandage rolls 
  • Eye rinse (sterile)
  • Flea and tick prevention, Heartworm prevention 
  • Gauze pads and rolls
  • Tongue depressors 
  • Alcohol prep pads 
  • Gloves (latex or nitrile)
