Weekly Checklist of Good Health
Keeping a weekly record of your pet's overall health through a visual checklist is a good way to monitor any changes that may occur in your pet's health and will allow your veterinarian to respond to any changes in a timely manner.
Is your pet acting normal, active and in good spirits?
Is your pet's appetite normal? Do they have any difficulty in chewing or swallowing?
Does your pet breathe normally without straining or increased effort?
When your pet urinates, does the frequency change? Does the amount increase or decrease?
Does your pet have normal bowel movements, or have they changed in consistency?
Does your pet walk without stiffness, pain or difficulty? Do they pause before climbing up on furniture or cars?
Is your pet's coat full, glossy and in good condition?
Is your pet's skin free from dry flakes? Does it appear red, oily, or are there scabs?
Does your pet have fleas, ticks, lice or mites? Is your pet on a preventative of some sort to prevent parasites?
Are your pet's eyes bright, clear, and free of debris or drainage?
Are your pet's ears clean and without debris inside? Do they shake their head or scratch at their ears?
Is your pet's nose moist and free of discharge?
Are your pet's teeth clean, white and free from tartar?
Are your pet's gums glistening and pink, with no noted redness? Do you notice any teeth that appear to be loose or decayed?
Anything noted that is abnormal should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian.
